Topography and Connectivity
Highway Connectivity: The topography of the Grama Panchayat connects most of its wards with National Highway 17 (NH-17). Two roads run parallel to NH-17.
Elevation: The Grama Panchayat is situated slightly below sea level, and the terrain is generally flat.
Terrain Classification: Consequently, the Grama Panchayat is generally characterized as a coastal plain region.
Soil Characteristics
- Soil Types: Clayey sand is found in the eastern regions of the Grama Panchayat, whereas the western regions consist of loamy sand.
- Acidity: The soil here has a highly acidic nature.
- Soil Fertility Issues: Due to the unique topography, sandy soil, and severe issues of saltwater intrusion in various parts, the fertility of the soil is on a decline. Furthermore, recent floods and excessive rainfall have brought adverse changes to both the topography and soil fertility.
Climate and Rainfall
- Monsoons: The region receives the Southwest Monsoon from June to August and the Northeast Monsoon (Thulavarsham) from September to December.
- Rainfall Data: Although the average annual rainfall received is 3101.4 mm, significant fluctuations occur in rainfall availability as a result of climate change.
- Temperature: High temperatures are experienced here during the months of March and April.
